Exhibition Schedule for Kiwanis Gallery 2016

December 29, 2015 to February 21, 2016               Urban Moves: Photographs by Arto Djerdjerian

Things move; things buzz; things are discovered; things are assessed. As a photographer, local artist

Arto Djerdjerian is an observer of urban life as it passes him in its every nuance. His photographs are multi-layered and captures what he finds fascinating; a form, a shape, a gesture, and colour, as well as an interaction between people or an interplay of light and shadow. Arto invites the viewer to explore and discover the beauty in the subtleties of daily urban life and find the little treasures in his works that raise more questions than answers.

June 20 to August 21             Highways of Alberta: Paintings by Greg Pyra

Imagine travelling in our vehicles throughout Alberta with no particular destination; then the journey becomes the destination. Capturing places of comfort and refuge, like service stations, fast food joints and service vehicles that are disappearing in small towns, allows this Turner Valley artist, Greg Pyra, to comment on the migration of people to the cities while celebrating the towns and communities of southern Alberta and recognizes their cultural contribution to the province of Alberta. Light becomes an important aspect of this journey of paintings as it alters the environment in significant ways and expresses Greg’s inner state of mind.

August 23 to October 16      Geospaces: Acrylic Paintings by Susan Delaney

This series of paintings by local artist, Susan Delaney, is inspired by the landscape and the qualities of the media: paint and water. As the layers begin to develop in the abstract paintings, emerging colour and composition allow the water media to influence the painting’s ultimate direction. Abstract painting in this layering process allows Susan to contemplate and meditate on the overall process. “There is a calculated spontaneity to the layering and movement of paint and water, and an increasing level of risk as the painting evolves, that make both the process and the result exciting and rewarding.” Susan Delaney, March 2014
